The 19th century was the Golden Age of British literature. A lot of changes took place not only in the Arts (Romanticism/Realism), but also in politics ( the Regency), in economics and society (the Industrial Revolution) during this period of time.
We can find outstanding writers such as Jane Austen, The Brönte Sisters or Charles Dickens whose influence was so wide in all aspects of society that it goes on untill today. In fact, our Christmas’ celebration comes from Dickens’ novel A Christmas Carol.
Their novels have been successfully adapted to TV so they are still alive nowadays
